We are constantly developing our electric boats and the individual components. Energy efficiency, i.e. low energy consumption in order to be able to travel as far as possible, has always been a determining factor in the development of our boat models. Which makes PEHN Bootsbau one of the pioneers in ecological boat building. Innovative production methods and new motor and battery technologies are subjected to several series of tests in practice.

With modern electrical engineering and the right boat hull, high speeds can be achieved. At full throttle there is a nice wave behind the boat and it steers very easily and almost turns on the stand. Lightweight construction

In 2013 we started to deal with the sandwich lightweight construction under vacuum and new lightweight battery – lithium technologies. On the one hand, we were able to save 40-60% of the weight on the boat with the 3D sandwich infusion method, depending on the component, and the batteries weigh only a sixth of the weight and also take up less space.

That means, for example, that our 660 boat weighs only 1100 kg including equipment instead of the usual 2 tons and we drive around with 120 instead of 600 kg batteries and if necessary still have space for three times the number of batteries.

New ranges

We’ve only been asked about the range of our boats since there were electric cars, because in the decades before that it was always a matter of course for us to build electric boats with which you can spend the whole day on the water (think boat rental) and beyond the night is recharged, i.e. this has always been possible with low speeds and narrow boat hulls, even with classic lead-acid batteries.

In addition to the hull shape, the construction and the components used are crucial for a functioning overall system.

Battery and network technology

Lithium batteries and their integration into the vehicle electrical system

PEHN Bootsbau uses modern lithium battery systems with battery management systems in the larger boats from 1.6 kw. It is integrated with a display and the nautical canbus / network protocol NMEA 2000. In this way, the charger, instruments and motor can communicate with one another as an on-board network.

The batteries are based on either LifePO or 18650 lithium cells and really pack a punch. The lightest batteries only weigh 5.5 kg per. Prices and durability have improved greatly over the years.

Integrated solar panels

Charge your boat independently of the sun

We offer all models with solar panels. The 530 model does not require a socket at all, meaning you can fill up with just the sun for a whole summer. With all other models, the sun brings at least a third of the charging power with a solar roof.

Until now, all electric boats had to have a berth with a socket, but such places are rare, but there are often free buoys or berths without electricity and solar panels on the boat or in a boat hut without electricity are the perfect solution.
A special charging technology based on the step-up principle guarantees that the batteries receive the full charging current even when there is little sunshine.
